2020년작품 작품소개 및 작가노트 (간략)
 
 작품의 의미 
전반적 작품의 내용적 측면은 무의식적 환영에 대한 것을 작가의 상상을 통해 사물이나 물체를 시각적 형상화하여 표현하고 있으며, 나와 타인과의 관계 또는 개인과 사회 안에서 불안하거나 외면 받는 이들을 위해 작가가 유형의 물체를 잉태하여 수호자 또는 보호자의 역할로 나타내고 있다. 그 물체(작품)는 누군가에게 하나의 주술적이거나 상징적인 대상이 되거나 방어막(shield)이 되었으면 한다. 



 十二支守護想 (십이지수호상) 여기서 상(想)은 명사로서 작품을 제작하는 작가의 생각을 말하는 것으로 십이지에 대한 나름의 생각을 연구하고 재해석하였다.
일반적으로 십이지란 도교의 방위 신앙과 불교의 십이 수가 연결된 것으로 십이지는 육십갑자의 아래 단위를 이루는 12개의 동물을 말한다.
12지는 처음에 시간적인 관념에 의하여 12개월의 부호로 쓰였으나 세기의 변화와 성격에 따라 방위적인 성격을 가지게 되어 십이 방위에 배당하였다. 신라시대부터 유행한 이 토테미즘(Totemism)은 나쁜 기운을 물리친다고 믿었다. ‘토템’은 집단의 상징이나 징표로서 동, 식물이나 자연물을 가리키며 토템미즘이란 토템과 인간의 여러 가지 관계를 둘러싼 신념, 의례, 풍습, 등이 제도화된 원시 신앙이다. < 윤리와 사상>자료를 발췌하면 토템미즘은 어떤 동, 식물이나 물건을 신성하게 여겨서 종족의 상징 또는 수호신으로 삼는 것을 말한다고 한다.

작가는 이러한 12지의 의미를 재해석하여 물체(동물)를 구성하였고, 각 형상은 동양과 서양의 이미지를 혼합하였다. 단적인 예를 들면 소의 이미지는 기본적으로 우리가 알고 있는 ‘소’라는 평범한 이미지를 탈피하여 물체의 이미지와 능력 중 강한(아메리카 들소)이로 가지고 왔으며 뱀의 형상 또한 코브라의 50배, 사람100명을 한 번에 죽일 수 있는 위력을 지니고 있는 타인판의 이미지를 빌려왔다. 즉 十二支守護想 (십이지수호상)은 “개인 또는 사회를 지키고 보호한다.” 의미에서 형태를 구축하였다. 뒷부분은 두광(정수리에서 나오는 빛), 신광(몸에서 발하는 빛), 화염(불치-광명을 불꽃모양으로 표현)으로 구성하였다.
서기 400년경에 중국 화염형 광배에서 운각석굴, 용모석굴에서 나타난 화염은 “불(火)는 천지를 밝힌다.”라고 하여 광명을 불꽃 모양으로 표현한다고 한다. 
 좌대는 복련 (연꽃을 엎어 놓은 것 같은 모양)방식으로 전체적인 안정감을 주고자 하였다.     

 오늘날 십이지는 도교와 불교의 방위, 수호 개념에서 각각의 띠에 해당하고 그 해에 지니는 상징적인 의미를 마음속에 새기면서 새해를 맞는 자세를 가다듬고 또한 사람의 액운을 막아준다고 믿고 있다. 
코로나 119 혼란 속에 十二支守護想(십이지수호상)이 개인과 사회의 보호적인 의미에서 나쁜 질병을 막아내고 정신과 육체의 우호적 존재로서 자리매김 하였으면 하는 바램이다.

The overall aspect of the work's content expresses the unconscious illusion through the artist's imagination by visually shaping objects or objects, and the artist creates tangible objects for the relationship between me and others or for those who are anxious or neglected in the individual and society. Having conceived, it is represented as the role of a guardian or protector. I want the object (work) to become a shamanistic or symbolic object or a shield to someone.

十二支守護想 (Twelve Zodiac Signs) Here, sang (thought) refers to the thoughts of the artist who produces the work as a noun.

In general, the zodiac refers to the 12 animals that form the unit under the sixty-year-old Zodiac.

At first, the 12 zodiac was used as a sign of 12 months according to the concept of time, but it was assigned to the twelve directions as it had a character of a direction according to the change of century and its character. Totemism, which has been popular since the Shilla Dynasty, was believed to ward off evil spirits. ‘Totem’ refers to animals, plants, or natural objects as a symbol or sign of a group. According to <Ethics and Ideology>, totemism refers to making a certain animal, plant, or object sacred and using it as a symbol or guardian of a tribe.

 The artist reinterpreted the meaning of these 12 zodiac signs to construct objects (animals), and each shape mixed Eastern and Western images. For a simple example, the image of a cow basically broke away from the ordinary image of 'cow' that we know and brought it as the strongest (American bison) among the image and ability of an object, and the shape of a snake was also 50 times that of a cobra and 100 people. I borrowed the image of another person's plate, which has the power to kill at once. In other words, 十二支守護想 (the zodiac sign of the zodiac) “preserves and protects the individual or society.” Form was constructed in meaning. The back part is composed of head light (light coming from the top of the head), shin light (light emitted from the body), and flame (fire treatment-light expressed in the shape of a flame).
Around AD 400, the flames that appeared in the Ungak Grottoes and Yongmo Grottoes in Chinese flame-type mandors are said to express light in the form of flames, saying, “Fire (fire) illuminates the heavens and the earth.”
  The pedestal was intended to give a sense of overall stability in the form of a double-faced lotus flower.

Today, the zodiac corresponds to each zodiac in the concept of defense and protection in Taoism and Buddhism, and while keeping in mind the symbolic meaning of the year, it is believed that it adjusts the attitude to welcome the new year and prevents bad luck from people.
In the midst of the confusion of Corona 119, I hope that the zodiac sign will prevent bad diseases in the sense of protecting individuals and society and establish itself as a friendly existence of mind and body.
